I passed briefly through this part of the world a couple of years ago on my way south from John O Groats. What an absolutely wonderful area of the world. Unspoilt majestic landscapes, friendly people, and some of the finest cycling on earth. I am now planning a trip specifically in this area, and I can't wait.

We have travelled twice to Durness, the first time we met a very nice lady with a little dog named Kirsty, and also had to make use of your most pleasant medical clinic. The second time our stay was just as memorable. I would certainly come back to Durness and not because of John Lennon. I have never been or ever will be a Beatles fan although I am certainly old enough to remember their heyday. I certainly hope that this ploy does not backfire by bringing to Durness some unsavoury characters as it is bound to do.

I'm from Tongue I remember John Lennon coming through Tongue and stopping at the tea room in the Post Office. After he crashed his car beside the Kyle of Tongue I removed the badges from the car and still have them today. I know it is theft but I was only 10 and it was my claim to fame at the time.

I've travelled a lot around the world but no where has inspired me, or taken my breathe away more that the Highlands of Scotland. Durness inpiticular. Where the Mountains meet the beaches, the lochs meet the sea. Its amazing. I don't believe there is anywhere in the UK to be found like it. There are also so many great places to see. From Smoo cave to amazing white and golden beaches. You can surf here, or swim in the beautiful sea( a wet suit helps with the temp of the sea) or just play and walk on the beach.
